Fall 2008 Crime Law and Justice/Sociology Career Expo

The Career Expo provides an opportunity for students to network and explore their internship and career options with employers in varied fields. While the Expo is geared towards Crime Law and Justice and Sociology students, students of all majors are invited to attend.

The Penn State Sociology Department and Pennsylvania Commission of Sentencing are co- sponsoring this year’s 33rd Annual Crime Law and Justice and Sociology Career Expo. The Advising Staff is coordinating this year’s expo with assistance from our student organizations, the Justice Association and Sociology Club.

VETERAN’S EXPO 

Who: ALL veterans and their spouses  

When: Wednesday, August 6, 2008, 11 am – 4 pm 

What: You should bring ample copies of your most recent resume and dress appropriately for interviewing. There will be areas reserved for interviews to be conducted. Make sure you come prepared. 

Transportation: Buses will be available on a first come first serve basis. An advanced reservation for seating is required. To reserve your seat please call your local Veterans Employment Representative. Deadline to reserve seating is 25 July 2008. Call Now!

The Veterans Expo is designed to provide all veterans and their spouses job opportunities available with employers in the region. Attendees may also speak with representatives from numerous educational institutions, apprenticeship programs, and obtain information about financial aid. The Veterans Administration (VA) will be available to provide pertinent and timely information on veteran’s benefits, how to file for your benefits, and how to access care.

We hope you will join us for this exciting first-ever regional veterans event designed to welcome and honor our veterans who bring discipline, a strong work ethic, and great skills to the workplace!

Reservations are limited and will be honored on a first-come, first-served basis.

Event Exhibitors: Your comprehensive investment per table is $125 and includes all advertising costs and lunch for two (2) of your people.

We anticipate a large attendance by area veterans and their families (including spouses who may need jobs as well).
An Armstrong employer is paying for bus transportation for all veterans in each county needing a ride and/or wanting to save gas.

The Challenges and Rewards of Conducting Investigations into White Collar Crime and other Public Crimes
Our speaker for June is Paul Van Osdel. Mr. Van Osdel has been an investigative reporter at WTAE Channel 4 since March 1999. He loves digging deep, especially when it comes to people in power. It’s his job to know the things they don’t want him to know.
Mr. Van Osdel has won several awards for his work, including an Emmy. He is a graduate of Tufts University.   Mr. Van Osdel will speak about the challenges and rewards of conducting investigations into white collar crime and other public crimes
